Smart Farming / control decisions
Smart sprinkler system controller choices beyond the app
Buy a defined control behavior, not an undefined connection promise. Match scheduling, sensor feedback and operator responsibilities to the water-management task before selecting a factory proposal.

Let the field keep running when the connection changes
A connected controller can provide remote access while still depending on a local valve circuit and usable hydraulic pressure. Ask what schedules are retained on the device, which alarms require a gateway and how an operator resumes manual control. Document who maintains accounts, updates settings and exports records when a service subscription changes.
“What happens after a network loss?” belongs on the RFQ beside zone count and power supply.
For a smart drip irrigation controller alternative, compare sensor inputs, filtration requirements and fertigation interlocks with the sprinkler configuration. A shared interface label does not establish the same wiring, output capacity or safe pump sequence. Identify the exact manufacturer, model and revision before approving a substitute.
The requirements vocabulary follows the irrigation reference scope in our procurement research. It does not establish a supplier relationship or a measured water saving. Use the catalog to choose an inquiry option, then have your appointed designer define the field-specific requirements.
Close the technical questions before placing an order
Which measurements make a sample useful?
Agree the test environment with the supplier: valve type, power supply, connected sensor, System Flow Rate in gpm or m³/h and pressure in psi or bar. Record the command, observed response and alarm event. Repeat a schedule after power cycling and with the communication link unavailable. Acceptance limits must come from the buyer's approved design.
How should budget change the comparison?
A budget-friendly configuration may keep scheduling local and require more manual recordkeeping. A premium preference may prioritize expansion, enclosure quality or support, but the proposal must price those items explicitly. Compare a controller-only offer with a controller-only scope; list gateway, software, subscription, sensors and installation separately for a complete system comparison.
When does drip differ from a sprinkler route?
Drip irrigation emitter lines can serve localized crop zones and fertigation, but filtration and clogging maintenance remain operational duties. Sprinklers serve a different distribution pattern and require pressure and exposure checks. A center pivot span adds machine geometry and movement requirements. Select the irrigation route with the appointed designer before expecting a controller to solve a distribution problem.
What evidence should accompany the model?
Request the wiring drawing, input/output specification, enclosure installation limits, software responsibilities and replacement-part list. Any WaterSense or destination compliance claim must be checked for the exact product; it is not a qualification held by this sourcing service. Network coverage, power stability and maintenance capacity remain site limitations.
