Application conditions drive the purchase

Above ground smart sprinkler system requirements by site

Exposed lines, moving equipment and changing crop layouts make the installation context part of the controller brief. Compare factory options against the site, not against a dashboard screenshot.

Translate each growing environment into inputs

Nursery blocks

Record the changing bed arrangement, valve count and proposed grouping. Above-ground pipework may be moved between crops; ask how zone labels, schedules and sensor assignments are updated without losing the operator's record. Define protection from vehicle contact and sun exposure.

Turf and managed grounds

Identify available watering windows, pedestrian access and the nozzle or sprinkler configuration. Specify source pressure under operating flow and location of the flow measurement. Weather adjustments require local judgment; internet access cannot compensate for an undersized water supply.

Orchards and vineyards

Include elevation differences, block size and seasonal access. State whether the system operates sprinklers, drip irrigation emitter lines or both. Pump and fertigation interfaces need their own written schedule so a controller alternative does not omit a required interlock.

Protected growing

Separate irrigation timing from greenhouse climate control and specify how the two communicate. Humidity, splash, cable routing and enclosure location affect the installation choice. Request evidence for the actual enclosure and electrical configuration instead of adopting a generic outdoor label.

Specialty crop plots

Compare emitter and sprinkler routes against crop sensitivity, filtration maintenance and the field layout. Drip irrigation permits local delivery but makes emitter clogging and filter attention significant purchasing questions. A sprinkler route needs pressure and distribution checks under site conditions.

Broadacre interfaces

A center pivot span and a portable above-ground zone system solve different layout problems. Center pivot equipment suits a defined swept area and machinery route; small zone systems provide layout flexibility but add hose, valve and relocation duties. Neither should be selected from controller price alone.

Keep the hydraulic basis identical across replies

State System Flow Rate in gpm or m³/h with the operating pressure in psi or bar and the measurement location. Add source water quality, filtration, fertigation, coverage area, quantity and destination. Distinguish simultaneous zones from the total number of outputs.

For a sample validation plan, record the test setup, valve type, supply voltage, measured flow and pressure, then command each zone and observe sensor alarms. Repeat with the network disconnected and after a power cycle. The result is a buyer test record, not a published performance claim.

Procurement scenario: changing nursery zones

Illustrative buying scenario, not a customer result: a nursery plans separate watering schedules for propagation benches and mature container stock. The buyer lists the valve types, peak simultaneous flow, pressure measurement points and required network-loss behavior. Each factory is asked to identify included expansion modules and the applicable wiring drawing. The review produces a list of compatible options and unresolved test questions; no water-saving percentage or purchase outcome is assumed.

Budget preference can prioritize a simpler local schedule, while a broader service requirement can prioritize alarm support and remote records. Request separate pricing and responsibilities for either route.
